If you share your home with a cat or dog, standard fibreglass screens rarely survive a season. Pets lean, scratch and push — and the mesh gives way. The fix isn't a tougher pet; it's a screen built for them.
Why standard mesh fails
Fibreglass mesh is designed to stop insects, not withstand claws. A dog pressing against a patio screen to watch the yard, or a cat kneading a window screen, will tear it quickly.
Pet-resistant mesh
Pet mesh is a heavier vinyl-coated polyester weave — seven times stronger than standard fibreglass — that resists claws and pushes without sacrificing much airflow or visibility. It's the single biggest upgrade for pet households, especially on doors and lower windows.
Frame matters too
Pet mesh needs a frame that can hold the extra tension. We use reinforced aluminium frames and secure spline grooves so the mesh stays drum-tight even with daily contact. On sliding doors, a heavier-gauge track prevents the screen from being knocked off its rails.
Reinforce the high-contact spots
Put pet mesh on every screen an animal can reach — typically patio doors, ground-floor windows and any screen near a favourite perch. Standard mesh is fine out of reach upstairs.
With pet mesh on the right openings, your screens last years instead of weeks, and your pets keep their window on the world.
