A custom bug screen is only as good as its measurements. Order too small and bugs sneak through the gaps; too big and the screen bows and won't sit flat. The good news: measuring a window for a screen is straightforward once you know what to look for.
Measure the width
Open the window and locate the screen track or the recess the screen sits in. Measure the exact width at the top, middle and bottom of the opening to the nearest sixteenth of an inch. Use the smallest of the three — that's the dimension the frame must fit. If the three differ by more than 3/16", your frame is out of square and a flexible spline-frame screen will seat better than a rigid one.
Measure the height
Do the same vertically — left side, centre, right side — and again take the smallest. For sliding and double-hung windows, measure to the inside edge of the track, not the glass.
Note the frame type and hardware
Tell us whether your screen uses tension springs, leaf springs, plastic clips, or a spline groove, and the frame colour. This decides the hardware we send and whether your screen is a drop-in replacement or a custom build.
